Speeding driver on Manitoulin Island caught with cocaine, police say

A driver from Fort Erie, Ont., has been charged after he was pulled over for speeding on Highway 6, leading to the discovery of drugs believed to be cocaine.

The incident took place March 1 around 10:15 p.m. in the Township of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.

“An officer from the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 6,” police said in a news release March 6.

“The officer observed a vehicle travelling 127 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the subsequent investigation, the driver was arrested.”

A search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of cocaine, leading to drug trafficking charges, as well as speeding, not having his driver’s licence on him and driving without a permit.

The 25-year-old driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in the community March 24.
