The City of Timmins has reduced the speed limit on a section of Highway 67 effective immediately, citing deteriorating asphalt conditions. The temporary change lowers the speed limit from 80 km/h to 50 km/h on the municipality’s portion of the roadway, which runs from Highway 101 East to the city’s boundary — a stretch of about 9.1 kilometres. Temporary measure until further notice “This is temporary due to deteriorating asphalt conditions and will be in place until further notice,” the city said in a news release. Officials said caution signage is being installed along the corridor to alert motorists to the reduced speed. Repair work underway “A contractor has been engaged to complete pothole patching and repair,” the city said. Officials are also reminding drivers to remain vigilant as crews begin work on the damaged roadway. “Drivers are reminded to watch for road crews and further reduce speed in active work zones for the safety of workers and all road users,” added the city. The speed reduction remains in effect until further notice. The city has not provided a timeline for the completion of repairs nor restoration of the previous speed limit.
