The death of a 16-year-old girl, after reports of a shooting in northeast Edmonton on Sunday, has the community concerned. Police were called to a townhouse in the area of 139 Avenue and 32 street shortly before 7 a.m. for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a seriously injured 16-year-old girl. Officers administered first aid, but she was declared dead on the scene by EMS. “It’s very sad,” said Tania Dalueg who lives in the townhouse complex. “I have a daughter of my own … If that was my daughter, I just can’t imagine what that poor girl’s parents must be going through.” Family members identified the victim to CTV News Edmonton as Jazmin Dhesi. A GoFundMe describes Dhesi as someone her siblings looked up to. “She grew up surrounded by many friends and was very loved by her two younger siblings,” says the GoFundMe. Homicide detectives were back at the home Monday afternoon as they continue to investigate. They have not said whether they have any suspects or have made any arrests. Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said a mother and teenage daughter moved in about two months ago. Since then, there have been a string of late-night parties and people constantly coming and going. “I was very concerned,” said the neighbour. “I wasn’t sure whether to report this, but I figured the mother had it under control.” CTV News Edmonton confirmed with Dhesi’s family that she did not live in the townhouse complex, but was visiting a friend. Anyone with information about the death is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
