Southern Ont. motorist charged with stunt driving on Hwy. 102

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver from southern Ontario with multiple offences, including stunt driving, after an early morning traffic stop on Highway 102 in Thunder Bay.

The incident occurred on at about 1:28 a.m. on Sept. 4, when police received a traffic complaint.

“Officers observed the motor vehicle driving 105 km/h in a posted 50km/h and a traffic stop was initiated,” OPP said in a news release.

Charges laid, vehicle impounded

As a result of the incident and subsequent investigation, the driver, a 38-year-old from Maple, Ont., now faces charges of stunt driving, driving while under suspension and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

In addition to the charges, the involved vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the accused received a 30-day driver’s licence suspension.

Police urge public to report unsafe driving

In the news release, OPP reiterated their commitment to road safety across the province and encouraged individuals to report unsafe drivers.

“Members of the public are urged to report impaired, aggressive or careless driving by calling 911 in emergency situations,” said police. “Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.”
