Sault Ste. Marie man faces weapon, assault charges

A 31-year-old man is facing multiple charges in Sault Ste. Marie after a police responded to the report of an unwanted person.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said 911 operators received a call regarding the unwanted individual in the 100 block of Gibbs Street at about 7:15 p.m. on March 25.

“It was also reported the accused had slapped a victim, who is known to them,” police said in a news release.

Officers were dispatched and located the accused. Police said that the man was not complying with the conditions of a release order at the time.

Despite resisting arrest, the accused was taken into custody.

A search located a set of brass knuckles and a small quantity of suspected cocaine.

The man is charged with assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, drug possession and resisting a peace officer. He is also facing three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
