Sault police seize more than $400K in cash, cocaine and other drugs

One person was charged in Sault Ste. Marie after an investigation led to the seizure of a large amount of cocaine, cash, weapons and a vehicle.

One person has been charged in Sault Ste. Marie after an investigation that began last month, ended this week with the seizure of a large amount of cocaine, cash, weapons and a vehicle.

Police began the drug trafficking investigation in January involving a 30-year-old suspect.

The vehicle they were driving was stopped around 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 25 and the suspect was taken into custody.

“Detectives then executed search warrants at a multi-unit residence building in the 1100 block of Queen Street East and on the seized vehicle,” Sault police said in a news release Feb. 26.

Items seized include drugs believed to be 2,391.98 grams of cocaine, 165 oxycodone pills and 1,859 ml of codeine. Police also found $53,045 in cash, along with $40 in American currency, a loaded semi-automatic handgun, 55 rounds of ammunition, a stun gun, four brass knuckles, two digital scales, packaging materials and a cellphone.

“The total estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $363,591,” police said.

Charges include drug trafficking, several weapons offences and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
