A 49-year-old former employee was charged by the Sault Ste. Marie fraud unit June 23 with fraud and theft over $5,000 at the business where he used to work. Police began an investigation into a reported fraud by an employee at a business in the 700 block of Great Northern Road in April. “The investigation revealed the accused — who was an employee of the business at the time of the reported thefts — had stolen cash that was supposed to be deposited at a bank between January and April of 2026,” police said in a news release June 25. The man is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17.
