Greg Parise pleaded guilty Friday morning in the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse to two counts of impaired driving in a collision in April 2025 that killed a 15-year-old and injured another. Parise pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death in the April 20, 2025, crash that killed Connor Dunn, who was riding an e-bike on Goulais Avenue early in the morning. Parise, who was 18 at the time of the crash, also pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm for the injuries to the second teen. He told officers at the scene of the collision that he had drunk nine beers before driving the pickup truck. He later revised that in his statement to police after his arrest to six beers. Victims were riding an e-bike Parise was driving the truck when he turned left onto Third Line West around 1 a.m., striking the two teens on the e-bike. “I shouldn’t have drove,” Parise told officers the night of his arrest. Dunn died from blunt force impact. A 15-year-old with him suffered non-life-threatening injuries, though a leg injury still persists. Parise was tested around 3 a.m. and was found to have 145 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, well above the legal limit. Ontario Court Justice Sandra Caponecchia was told that Crown David Parke and defence lawyer David Bayliss are far apart on a sentence recommendation for Parise, so a joint submission is unlikely. The maximum sentence for impaired driving causing death is life in prison, under section 320.14(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada. A Gladu report is to be prepared ahead of the sentencing hearing, with Caponecchia asking for it to be expedited. The case returns to court Aug. 13, when the lawyers will make sentencing submissions. The lawyer for the Dunn family said they were declining to comment after Parise’s guilty plea and are asking for people to respect their privacy.
