Sault man charged in series of incidents residential complex

A 41-year-old man in Sault Ste. Marie faces multiple charges following a pair of disturbances at a multi-unit residential building – including allegations that he threw a beverage at another tenant and damaged property.

Police say the first report came in shortly before 4 p.m. on April 18 when 911 operators received a call about a disturbance in the 500 block of Dundas Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene.

“An investigation revealed the accused damaged property belonging to other tenants – once on April 15 and twice on April 18 – and that the accused had thrown a beverage at another tenant on April 13,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

No physical injuries were reported in connection with the incidents – however, officered obtained a warrant for the accused’s arrest.

Second disturbance leads to arrest

Around 10:15 p.m. on April 19, 911 operators received another report of a disturbance at the same building.

“Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they located and arrested the accused,” said police.

During a search of the man, police said officers found approximately 2.85 grams of suspected methamphetamine and an identification document that did not belong to him.

The accused is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of an identity document, three counts of mischief and four offences related to failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
