Quebec man faces multiple charges after northern Ont. traffic stop

A report of a suspicious vehicle in North Bay has resulted in a Quebec man facing multiple charges, including impaired driving and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The North Bay Police Service responded to the call in the Sherbrooke Street area at about 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 4.

The incident and investigation

“Officers located the vehicle and observed that the driver was showing visible signs of impairment,” said police in a news release. “Within reach of the driver, officers also observed what appeared to be a prohibited substance.”

The motorist was transported to police headquarters for further investigation. An evaluation by a trained drug recognition expert concluded the man’s “ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired.”

A subsequent search led to the seizure of suspected crystal methamphetamine, items associated with drug use and a set of prohibited brass knuckles.

As a result, the driver, a 52-year-old man from Kebaowek, Que., was charged with impaired driving, drug possession, possession of a prohibited weapon and four counts of failing to comply with probation orders.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
