Police seize weapons, $160K in drugs in major bust in Timmins, Kapuskasing

Five suspects have been charged with 38 drug trafficking and related offences following police raids of residences in Timmins and Kapuskasing late last month.

Two people from the GTA and three from northern Ontario have been charged with 38 drug trafficking and related offences following police raids of residences in Timmins and Kapuskasing late last month.

Several police agencies worked together in the investigation, which began in February and focused on drug trafficking from southern Ontario into northeastern Ontario and Quebec.

“Members of the Ontario Provincial Police-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team and the Timmins Police Service initiated an intelligence-led investigation into a network with ties to the GTA,” police said in a news release June 11.

Four search warrants

Four search warrants were executed May 26 in multiple residences in Timmins and one in Kapuskasing. Taking part were representatives from 14 police agencies.

Searches revealed two loaded handguns along with ammunition, and drugs believed to be 990 grams of cocaine; 350 grams of fentanyl; 230 grams of meth; 150 meth tablets; and a quantity of suspected MDMA tablets, hydromorphone tablets and lorazepam tablets.

The drugs have a combined street value of more than $160,000.

Police also found $2,795 in cash, 11 cellphones, digital scales and packaging. Charged are two people from Toronto, two from Timmins and one from Kapuskasing.
