Police seize loaded gun, $76K in drugs in Sault Ste. Marie raid

A major drug bust in Sault Ste. Marie netted police more than $76,000 in drugs along with $5,000 cash, a loaded gun and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Five people are facing multiple charges after police in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., seized a loaded handgun and drugs with an estimated street value of over $76,000 from a local residence on Friday.

“In 2025, detectives began an investigation into individuals believed to be trafficking drugs,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release Monday.

That investigation culminated just before 6 p.m. on Jan. 9, when detectives from the crime suppression and drug enforcement units, assisted by other police personnel and the Ontario Provincial Police, executed a search warrant at a home on the 100 block of Anna Street.

A search of the residence yielded a significant cache of illicit items. Police reported seizing the following:

• approximately 442.39 grams of suspected fentanyl,
• about 202.64 grams of suspected cocaine,
• approximately 82.64 grams of suspected methamphetamine,
• a loaded handgun,
• ten rounds of ammunition,
• about $5,000 in cash,
• a digital scale, drug packaging materials, and a cutting agent, along with
• nine cellphones

“The estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $76,686.50,” said police.

Five individuals were taken into custody as a result of the raid. The accused include a 21-year-old man from Brampton, a 23-year-old man from Toronto, a 31-year-old man also from the GTA, a 29-year-old local man and a 39-year-old local woman.

Each faces a series of serious charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, three drug trafficking charges and three other firearm-related offences.

The 39-year-old local woman also faces two additional charges relating to failures to comply with probation orders.

All five accused were held in custody pending a weekend court appearance.
