Police seize $17K in cash, suspected drugs on Manitoulin Island

Police in M'Chigeeng First Nation seized more than $17K in drugs and cash, charging three local people and one person from Scarborough with drug trafficking.

Police seized an estimated $12,939 worth of suspected cocaine and about $4,400 in cash following the execution of a search warrant on Manitoulin Island, resulting in drug trafficking charges against four individuals.

On May 5, the UCCM Drug Enforcement Unit, assisted by the Frist Nation police service’s canine unit and Ontario Provincial Police, searched a residence on Hall Street in M’Chigeeng First Nation.

“As a result of the investigation, police seized approximately 86.26 grams of suspected cocaine,” police said in a news release.

Police said officers also seized approximately $4,400 in cash from the scene.

Commitment to public safety

“The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service remains committed to addressing the trafficking of illegal drugs within our communities and continues to work collaboratively with policing partners to enhance public safety,” the service said.

Four individuals charged

Three residents of M’Chigeeng First Nation and a woman from Scarborough have each been charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police are asking anyone with information about drug trafficking or other criminal activity in the area to contact the UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
