A RIDE program checkpoint in Papineau-Cameron Township Sept. 5 didn’t deter a 61-year-old-Simcoe Country man. Ontario Provincial Police said in a release Thursday, a man faces an impaired driving charge after entering the checkpoint where officers determined a driver had consumed alcohol. “At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Neault Road in Papineau-Cameron Township where the driver was arrested and transported to the Mattawa OPP detachment for further testing,” police said. Police impounded the vehicle for seven days while the man’s driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in North Bay court Oct. 20.
