Police arrest one of three suspects still wanted in Sudbury stabbings

Sudbury police arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with Monday's stabbing of a 41-year-old still critical condition. A 17-year-old was previously arrested.

Two people have now been charged with attempted murder and police are searching for two more suspects in connection with two stabbings in Sudbury’s downtown.

The first attack took place around 11 p.m. on Aug. 11 near the intersection of Elm Street at Durham Street, police said in a news release Wednesday.

“Information provided was that an individual was located with what were believed to be stab wounds and required immediate medical attention,” the release said.

In critical condition

“Officers arrived on scene and located a 41-year-old man who had sustained what are believed to be multiple stab wounds. The individual was transported to hospital where he remains in critical condition.”

Officers were still dealing with that incident when a 911 call came in about a second person with stab wounds in the area of Energy Court.

Police arrived and found a 23-year-old man with wounds. He was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

“Based on the investigation thus far, it is believed that the injured individuals were involved in separate altercations with the same group of people prior to being stabbed,” police said.

“It is believed that the separate attacks took place where the injured individuals were located by police.”

A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the stabbing on Elm Street. He is charged with two counts each of attempted murder, wearing a disguise, weapons possession and failing to comply with a release order.

Later on Wednesday, police said a 26-year-old man was arrested near Durham and Larch streets and charged with the same offences.

“These were targeted incidents as the individuals involved are known to each other,” police said.
