OPP’S northwest commander looks back after five years

As he begins his new responsibilities as the OPP's Deputy Commissioner and Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support, Bryan MacKillop is expressing his gratitude to the people, communities, policing partners, and OPP members who have supported him throughout his five years as Regional Commander for the North West Region.

Bryan MacKillop has assumed a new position with the Ontario Provincial Police as deputy commissioner and provincial commander of traffic safety and operational support.

MacKillop said his time as northwest regional commander allowed him to work closely with municipal police services, indigenous police and leaders, service boards, community organizations and government to strengthen public safety and community well-being.

He said achievements realized over the past five years were the result of a collective effort.

“What I am most proud of is not any individual accomplishment, but what we were able to achieve together,” MacKillop said in a news release Thursday,

His career with then OPP began at the Marathon detachment in 1998.

“The extraordinary people I have worked alongside have shaped me as a police officer, a leader and a person,” MacKillop said.

“While I may be leaving this role, I will always carry immense pride in northwestern Ontario and in the people who make it such a special place.”

MacKillop’s duties as deputy commissioner began Sept. 21.
