Here’s what’s happening in and around Edmonton this weekend: Edmonton Elks vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers The Elks take on the Blue Bombers at Commonwealth Stadium Friday night for a special fan favourite game known as United in Pink, where tickets go toward programs fighting breast cancer. It’s the final home game of the regular season. Picklefest It’s a pretty big dill (sorry). This briny festival is back at Ice District’s Fan Park all day Saturday. Expect pickle-themed cocktails, mocktails, art and food as well as family-friendly programming and music (pickles not included there, ostensibly). Alberta Powersports Show Snowmobiles, ATVs and other off-roading machines and accessories will be on display at the Edmonton Expo Centre Friday and Saturday. There will also be live entertainment and special guest appearances. Edmonton Fall Home Show Hundreds of home professionals will be at the Edmonton Expo Centre Friday through Sunday for anyone looking for some home decor inspiration. Adult admission starts at $12. LitFest It’s “lit.” Actually, it’s literature. Each October, LitFest puts together panels of writers who share their work, true stories and lived experiences. Organizers say it’s Canada’s first and only non-fiction festival, beginning in 2002 through the Alberta Book Fair Society and since growing to downtown stages over several days. Presentations end on Sunday. Edmonton Short Film Festival A red carpet gala at the downtown City Centre mall on Saturday is the opener for a number of independent short film showings from Sunday at 6 p.m. to Oct. 25 at midnight. Deadwood: Exhibit 13 Anyone 14 or older can head to The Fort Heritage Precinct in Fort Saskatchewan for a haunted museum put on by a youth-led committee both Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $5, cash-only at the door. Here are some events for the kids: Boo at the Zoo Returns to the Edmonton Valley Zoo on Saturday, Sunday and the following weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost for this all-ages event is regular admission. It will feature not-so-scary festivities with magical guest characters, crafts and stops for trick-or-treating. Yes, the zoo animals will also be getting their own treats. Halloween costume swaps At the Reuse Centre (6835 83 St.) each Saturday leading up to Halloween from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Galactic Atmosphere: A space-themed light art festival From Friday to Oct. 25, Churchill Square will look like the cosmos, with a display of lit-up planets to walk through in the afternoon and evening until 11 p.m. Attendance is free. Stars Hollow Fall Festival and Gilmore Girls movie night More than 15 local vendors will land in Sherwood Park on Friday and Saturday for a cozy outdoor Gilmore Girls watch party. Market admission is free and movie admission is by donation.
