A 59-year-old man from Red Deer, Alta., has been charged with two impaired driving offences after Ontario Provincial Police in Armstrong, Ont., say officers took a second impaired driver off the road in two weeks. OPP Staff Sgt. Kyle Arnold said a crash occurred just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday at King Street and First Avenue in the hamlet. “This driver blew more than twice the legal limit,” OPP said in a social media post. The Albertan was charged with two impaired driving offences – including operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. In addition to the charges, under provincial law, the man received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days. Charges followed breath test, police say “This obviously could have been a lot worse and a good reminder that alcohol impairs your judgment,” Arnold said in a video accompanying the post, adding he had just finished the breath test when he posted it. OPP used the incident to emphasize the dangers of impaired driving. “(Impairment) is one of the big 4 reasons for serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions on our highways,” said police in the post. In previous news releases, OPP have explained that the ‘Big Four’ refer to impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving (including speeding) and seatbelt compliance. “Drive safe, drive sober,” added Arnold to end the video.
