OPP and Crime Stoppers seek help identifying a suspect after a Wawa airport fuel theft on Feb. 5, 2026.

Ontario Provincial Police and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect following a mischief and theft incident at the Wawa airport earlier this year.

Surveillance captures late-night incident

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District released details of the incident on Thursday, appealing for tips to help solve the case.

Authorities said an unknown individual arrived at the airport on Mission Road and parked a vehicle next to a parked Ford Transit van and turned off the vehicle’s lights.

Police said that surveillance video then showed the light of a flashlight near the Ford Transit van. Minutes later, the suspect’s vehicle was seen leaving the airport and heading toward Highway 17.

According to Crime Stoppers the incident occurred between 9:18- 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 5.

“The owner of the Ford Transit van later reported to police they located nine holes drilled into the vehicle’s fuel tank, and an empty tank,” Crime Stoppers said in a news release.

Suspect description

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 25 to 35 years old, with medium-length dark hair and a mustache.

He was observed driving a Ford Econoline recreational vehicle.

Appeal for information

“Do you recognize the individual?” asked Crime Stoppers in the release.

“If you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers,” the organization added in a related social media video.

Information can be provided directly to OPP or submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
