Ont. man charged twice for dangerous, impaired driving in a month

A 33-year-old man from Wabigoon Lake First Nation faces impaired and dangerous driving charges for the second time in just over a month following a crash at the Laura Howe Marsh parking area.

Early morning collision

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of the collision shortly after 6 a.m. on Saturday.

“Police were advised that a black SUV had entered the parking lot and then rapidly accelerated, launching over a snowbank and into a ditch,” said OPP in a news release Sunday.

Police said officers were told the lone male occupant exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

“Officers located the individual a short distance away a short time later,” OPP said.

Prior charges cited

As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with dangerous driving and impaired driving.

“Investigators note that just over one month prior, the accused was arrested and charged for the same two offences after allegedly live-streaming while consuming illicit substances and operating a motor vehicle,” police said.

“OPP would like to remind the public that charges have been laid and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.

Authorities are also urging the public to report suspected impaired drivers.

“Anyone with information related to impaired or dangerous driving is urged to contact police by calling 911,” said OPP.
