Northwestern Ont. teen charged with attempted murder with firearm

A police investigation into a shooting last week has resulted in a 17-year-old facing multiple charges, including attempted murder.

The Thunder Bay Police Service said that officers were dispatched to the Vale Crescent area at about 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 2.

“Officers located an injured victim who was transported to a local hospital for further treatment,” said police in a news release.

Suspect in custody

Following the incident, the police service’s major crime unit took over the investigation and identified a teenaged suspect. Officers from multiple units then located and took the youth into custody in the Dawson Road area on Feb. 5.

Multiple Charges Laid

As a result, the teen is charged with attempted murder using a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, recklessly discharging a firearm and two counts of robbery along with three other firearm-related offences.

Authorities said the 17-year-old also had two outstanding warrants with the Thunder Bay Police Service prior to this arrest.

The accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, remains in custody with a future court date scheduled.
