Shawn Adams and his mother, Leah Adams, both of Temiskaming Shores, are celebrating after winning $116,132 in the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADF) May 50/50 draw.

This marks the second time the pair has won the lottery’s grand prize – a first in the foundation’s history. In March 2024, they took home $138,105.

When Barb McCormick, the foundation’s manager of donor relations, called Shawn on Friday, he was initially cautious. But as soon as she mentioned where she was calling from, he realized he’d won again.

‘Luck of the Irish’

“No way!” Shawn said.

“That’s the second one … Oh my gosh, the luck of the Irish comes through again.”

Last time, most of his winnings went to covering his son’s education – he is attending medical school abroad. Now, these funds will help cover a trip to Australia for his son’s graduation in December.

Shawn also joked that while he didn’t buy the boat he mentioned after his first win, he plans to do so this time.

As a retired lab technician, Shawn understands the importance of hospital equipment. His family has relied on the hospital’s services in the past, and he sees the lottery as a meaningful way to give back.

Proceeds from the draw support the hospital’s highest-priority needs, helping it continue to provide quality care to the community.

Tickets for the June draw are available to purchase right now, with sales ending at 11:59 p.m. on June 26. The jackpot-winning ticket will be drawn on June 27 at 11 a.m.

“When you win, so does your hospital,” the foundation says on his 50/50 webpage.

Tickets can be purchased online, at the TADF office on Ross Avenue East or a dozen retail locations across Timmins and South Porcupine.
