A 42-year-old North Bay man who fled police July 14 has been arrested and now faces numerous charges, including release violations, weapons offences and stunt driving. The incident began in July, when a vehicle failed to stop for police around 7 a.m. in North Bay. “The investigation revealed the vehicle had been driven in a dangerous manner at a high rate of speed while attempting to evade police,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Sept. 11. “Further investigation identified the driver and resulted in warrants being sought for the accused.” The suspect was wanted for several offences at that point, including stunt driving, fleeing police, failing to comply with release orders and dangerous driving. Finally on Sept. 9, police located him and during his arrest, he assaulted an OPP officer. “While being processed at the North Bay OPP detachment, officers located a prohibited weapon,” the release said. “The weapon, a knife incorporating brass knuckles, was seized. Further investigation determined the accused was prohibited from possessing weapons as a condition of existing court orders.” New charges include multiple counts of breaching recognizance, breaching conditional sentence order, carrying a concealed weapon and assaulting police. The accused was held in custody and remanded following a bail hearing.
