Friday will likely be the bottom of the cool spell for afternoon temperatures in Edmonton, but the coldest morning lows will come this weekend. I’m still thinking there may be some patchy frost in parts of north-central and northern Alberta this weekend. In Edmonton - most neighbourhoods should stay above zero. But, we’ll be REALLY close to the freezing mark...especially Sunday morning. Not much rain in the forecast. We do have some scattered showers in central and northern AB this morning and the northerly flow may push one or two of those showers across parts of the Edmonton region today. But, it’ll mostly just be cloudy, windy and cool today. Gusts won’t be as strong as Thursday, but we’ll have 30-40 km/h gusts for much of the day. A few sunny breaks aren’t out of the question, but clouds will dominate the skies and temperatures should hold fairly steady in the 12-13 degree range much of the day. The wind eases Friday evening and we have an area of high pressure set to drift across the province this weekend. That should bring back some clearer skies in the coming days. I think we’ll start Saturday with some clouds and then the sun will come out in the afternoon. Temperatures will hit the mid teens Saturday afternoon in Edmonton. Sunshine all day on Sunday with temperatures starting out just slightly above zero and getting close to 20 in the afternoon. That warmup on Sunday is a teaser of what’s to come later next week. We’ll briefly drop back to the mid teens for afternoon highs Mon/Tue. THEN...all signs point to an Upper Ridge moving in and bringing a lengthier warm spell for mid to late next week. Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat of next week are all expected to hit the low 20s with fairly clear skies.
