North Bay man charged with animal cruelty after 4 kittens found dead

A North Bay man faces animal cruelty charges after four kittens were found dead at a Cassells Street home. Police arrested him at a nearby residence.

A 36-year-old North Bay man who was already wanted on an outstanding warrant has been charged with animal cruelty in connection with the death of four kittens.

Police responded around 5:30 p.m. April 9 to a report of animal cruelty in the 1100 block of Cassells Street.

“Upon arrival, officers located four deceased kittens,” police said in a news release April 10.

“Through investigation, the suspect was identified and subsequently located at a nearby residence and arrested without incident.”

The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of Animal Welfare Services.

Four counts of killing an animal

Charges include four counts of killing or injuring an animal, failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Following a bail hearing, the suspect was remanded into custody pending a future court date.

Residents can report animals in distress, or suspected cases of abuse or neglect, by contacting the Ontario Animal Protection Call Centre at 1-833-9-ANIMAL (264625).

“Call 911 in an emergency when any life, including animals, is in immediate danger,” police said.

“We want to thank the public for their assistance, which was instrumental in advancing this investigation,” Acting Insp. Richard Hampel said in the news release.
