New shuttle bus service to and from Greater Sudbury Airport cheaper than a taxi

A new, affordable option is available to and from Sudbury Airport as local transportation company expands services.

A transportation company, Aaron Group, has launched the first shuttle bus to and from the Sudbury Airport.

It’s designed to offer an economical fare and is the result of the company working with the airport to expand and improve ground transportation options.

Aaron Group officially launched the service May 20 with a 20-seat bus and made its first stop at the airport Tuesday.

“By making the route more condensed and efficient, we can offer it … for a price that is basically less than half of a taxi route to a similar area,” said Mike Sanders, Aaron Group owner.

“We recognize there is a bit of a geographic distance (between) the airport and the city’s core. It’s actually 24 kilometres between the airport and the downtown core,” said Chris Pollesel, the airport’s director of commercial and passenger experience.

“Having a number of options is very beneficial to our passengers.”

Airport officials said any licensed taxi company can also offer ground transportation to and from the airport.

“The South End, now that would stretch from … Highway 69 and up by the Salute Coffee Company, $44 including tax. And … Cambrian College or the Ontario Northland Station in New Sudbury, $24 including tax,” said Sanders.

The shuttle bus is the newest most economical option and the result of Aaron Group working with the Sudbury Airport to develop, improve and expand ground transportation options over the past two years.

“We have the current taxi program. We have worked with Aaron … to have a discounted rate for passengers travelling to or from the airport,” Pollesel said.

“They also launched their ‘Black Car Service,’ which is the Aaron luxe program and now, having the shuttle offers another convenient option but also affordable option as well.”

The Aaron Group said it plans to offer $8 shuttle bus fares for rides along the airport shuttle route. Options for the shuttle bus are available on the company’s website or app.
