More sex assault charges for former staffer at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre

A 41-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man is facing additional charges after three more victims were identified in the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre case.

A 41-year-old man who was charged with sexually assaulting two inmates at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre while he was employed there has been charged with several more offences.

The suspect has been in custody since he was charged with four offences Oct. 9, 2025. An investigation led police to conclude he had sexually assaulted two inmates while he was employed at the centre.

He was arrested again Feb. 11 by detectives with the Toronto Police Service as part of new evidence discovered by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Three additional victims

“As a result of the continued investigation, detectives developed grounds to lay additional charges in relation to the two previously identified victims,” Sault police said in a news release Feb. 13.

“The investigation revealed further incidents involving breaches of trust as a public officer, indecent acts and sexual assaults. Detectives identified three additional victims, one of whom was sexually assaulted by the accused on multiple occasions.”

He was charged in Toronto because he is being held in the Toronto South Detention Centre.

New charges include two counts of sexual assault, two counts of committing an indecent act and five counts of breach of trust by a public officer.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
