Moose Factory man charged in historical sex assault probe

A 71-year-old man from Moose Factory has been charged with multiple historical sexual offences involving a minor.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said members became aware of an accusation related to multiple incidents of sexual assault against a female minor in March 2026.

Following an investigation, the man was taken into custody without incident on March 20.

He is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, two counts of sexual interference, inviting sexual touching to a person under 16 years of age and making sexually explicit material available to a person under 14 years of age.

The accused appeared for a bail hearing on March 21 and was released with conditions to await a future court date.

Investigation details

Police said the investigation revealed that the alleged incidents involving the accused and the victim occurred between 2015 and 2022 in Moose Factory First Nation.

“The exact nature of the relationship between the victim and accused is being withheld in an effort to further protect the identity of the victim,” police said in a news release.

Call for additional victims

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

“Members of the NAPS northeast crime unit continue to investigate and believe there is a possibility of other victims who have yet to come forward,” said police.
