Mobile clinic in Kapuskasing to support evacuees from Kashechewan

Creemergency, an organization helping residents of Kashechewan, has set up a mobile medical clinic in Kapuskasing to support evacuees.

A mobile medical clinic called ‘Creemergency’ is fully operational in Kapuskasing to provide medical services to people evacuating Kashechewan First Nation.

The clinic is made possible “through a generous donation from Agnico Eagle,” Creemergency said in a news release.

“Creemergency, in partnership with local health partners, has engaged Canadian Medical Assistance Teams (CMAT) to deliver clinical care through the mobile clinic,” the release said.

“CMAT is a Canadian grassroots, non-profit disaster relief organization based in Brantford, Ont. Through its medical relief and development projects, CMAT works to improve the health and welfare of families both across Canada and in developing countries around the world.”

The mobile clinic provides on-site health care, allowing Kashechewan residents to get medical help quickly.

“Creemergency recognizes that community members are sometimes hesitant to seek care through hospital settings,” the release said.

Reduces pressure on hospital

“Having a clinic dedicated specifically to Kashechewan First Nation community members has resulted in a greater number of individuals reaching out for health-care needs that can now be addressed directly on site.”

The mobile clinic also helps divert patients away from the local hospital in Kapuskasing, ensuring the facility is not overwhelmed.

“By providing a dedicated, self-contained clinical space within the host community, the clinic helps reduce unnecessary hospital visits while ensuring accessible and culturally appropriate care,” the release said.

“Creemergency has successfully deployed this clinical model during past evacuations, with strong outcomes in improving access to care, enhancing privacy, and supporting public health objectives.”

Creemergency is a majority First Nation-owned emergency management organization that began operations in 2025, providing evacuation management and community support services across Ontario.

The organization works in close partnership with Indigenous communities, government agencies, and local partners to deliver timely, culturally informed emergency response solutions.
