Mining company donates $350K to Timmins hospital

Lake Shore Gold and Pan American Silver have donated $350K to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation's $30M Re-imagining Healthcare Campaign.

Patients across northeastern Ontario are set to benefit from a $350,000 donation to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation from Lake Shore Gold, a subsidiary of Pan American Silver.

The contribution will support the foundation’s Reimagining Healthcare Campaign, helping fund the redevelopment of the hospital’s new emergency department as well as the purchase of priority medical equipment.

The foundation’s $30 million campaign will cover the hospital’s share of the emergency department redevelopment while also raising funds for a new MRI machine, CT scanner and nuclear medicine equipment.

Campaign Director Dave McLaughlin told CTV News community donations are essential to making the project a reality.

“The reality of hospitals anywhere is that we have to rely on both government support and donor support as well,” said McLaughlin.

“Out of the $30 million, we are responsible for $20 million for the new emergency department redevelopment. The remaining $10 million will go towards equipment hospital-wide – specifically MRI, CT scan and nuclear medicine.”

The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation hopes to complete fundraising for its $30 million campaign by the end of next year.
