Town council in Iroquois Falls has reaffirmed its decision to move the Guy-Paul Treefall statue to the museum property downtown after a second vote. The renewed discussion followed a delegation and a petition urging the town to repair and relocate the statue. Mayor Tory Delaurier, who was unable to vote in the initial decision, supported the move, telling CTV News the plan made sense and could boost tourism. The refurbishment and relocation are expected to cost the town $20,000. “$20,000 seems like a lot of money, but if you look at the bigger picture, if it brings in so many people a year to the community – the spin-offs to the rest of the community is very important,” Delaurier said. “Say if it brings in a family and, like I say, a doctor comes into Iroquois Falls and they want to see the history of Iroquois Falls or any professional – they get to see at the museum what we have to sell at our community.” Work on the statue is expected to begin in June or July.
