Sault police and Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect after he was seen attempting to steal copper wiring from a utility panel earlier this month. Marie & Algoma District released details of the incident Friday, appealing for tips to help solve the case and possibly related incidents. “Over the course of the summer, numerous incidents of mischief and thefts have occurred across the city, causing costly damage and lost property,” said Crime Stoppers said in a news release. Authorities said the incident occurred on Sept. 3. “A male was attempting to cut copper wire from a PUC panel located on Pim Street,” said Crime Stoppers. “The suspect caused damage to the panel before fleeing.” Suspect description The suspect appears in a supplied photo as a man with a medium build, wearing a grey and white shirt and a dark baseball cap. Appeal for information “Do you recognize this individual?” asked Crime Stoppers in a related social media video. “If you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers,” the organization added in its release. Information can be provided directly to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
