Heavy police presence in Sagamok clears; OPP says no threat to public

Ontario Provincial Police and Anishinabek Police Service maintained a heavy presence in the Sagamok Anishnawbek area over several days as part of an ongoing investigation.

“OPP officers are assisting Anishinabek Police Service with this investigation,” police said in a social media post before 10 a.m. on Saturday.

The police services had cordoned off the area near New Subdivision Road and Sagamok Road.

“Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes,” police said at the time.

No public threat

Authorities moved to reassure area residents that the situation does not pose a broader risk.

“There is no threat to public safety at this time,” police said in their initial post.

In an update shortly before 7 p.m. on March 28, OPP advised the significant police presence was connected with a home on New Subdivision Road.

In an update shortly before 8 p.m. on March 30, OPP confirmed that the police presence had cleared the scene.

“Thank you for your patience and cooperation,” police said Monday.

OPP stated that it has “no further information available.”

CTV News reached out to the Anishinabek Police Service for more information on the nature of the investigation but did not receive a response.
