A fire that started in the garage Thursday evening caused extensive damage to a home on Prentice Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, fire officials said Friday. Firefighters responded around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 13 to what was reported as a garage fire that also damaged two nearby homes. “Upon arrival, there was significant smoke and flames visible from the detached residential garage and the residential dwelling as well as two neighbouring residential dwellings,” Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services said in a news release. “After tirelessly battling the blaze, fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire. PUC Services and Enbridge Gas attended the scene.” While an investigation determined the fire started in the garage, extensive damage prevented firefighters from determining exactly how it started. “There is extensive fire and smoke damage to the residential garage structure and the residential dwelling as well as to a vehicle that was in close proximity to the dwelling,” the release said. “There is also fire and heat exposure damage to two neighbouring residential dwellings. There were no injuries to report.”
