A 23-year-old suspect from Elliot Lake has been charged with impaired driving in connection with an incident in August where an ATV became entangled with hydro lines.

Ontario Provincial Police said the man was charged Nov. 15 after a “lengthy” investigation into the collision, which took place around 6:15 p.m. on Aug. 6 on Mississauga Avenue.

“The ATV hit a hydro pole, tangled in lines and flipped onto a residential front yard fence,” police said in a news release Monday.

“Emergency medical services transported the lone operator to hospital for further assessment. After an in-depth investigation, the operator was arrested and charged.”

Charges include driving while impaired by alcohol, dangerous driving and failing to have an insurance card.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 25.

“The OPP reminds motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive,” police said.
