Elliot Lake man charged after Valentine’s Day stabbing

A family dispute at an apartment complex on Mississauga Avenue on Valentine’s Day escalated into a violent altercation, leading to charges against an Elliot Lake man.

Ontario Provincial Police said officers were called to an apartment complex in response to an assault involving a knife at about 2 p.m. on Saturday.

“The complainant reported a known male used a knife during an altercation inside the apartment,” OPP said in a news release.

Officers took the man into custody at the scene and the complainant was transported to hospital for treatment.

Police said the victim remains “stable.”

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault.

The accused was held pending a bail court appearance on Sunday.
