Driver stopped at 150 km/h on Highway 11 charged with impaired: OPP

A 40-year-old driver from Stittsville is facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police say officers stopped a vehicle travelling 60 kilometres over the speed limit on Highway 11.

Police said the vehicle was observed travelling at 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

OPP communications advisor Erin McCrea, in an email to CTV News, confirmed officers conducted the traffic stop at about 11 a.m. on June 16 in Greenstone, Ont.

When officers had the vehicle pulled over, police said they observed signs of impairment in the driver.

A subsequent search of the vehicle located several alcoholic beverages.

Criminal, provincial charges

The man is now facing both criminal and provincial offence charges as a result of the incident – he was charged with stunt driving along with speeding and impaired-relate offences.

In addition to the charges, the man also received mandatory driver’s licence suspensions and had his vehicle impounded by police.

OPP safety reminder

Provincial police used the incident to remind motorists of the dangers of high speeds and impaired driving.

“Driving at excessive speeds is always dangerous, but the risk is compounded when the driver is impaired,” said McCrea in a social media post.

“Reminder to slow down and drive sober.”
