The Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) announced on Saturday that the vice-president of Tourisme Montréal, Manuela Goya, would stand as a candidate in Brome-Missisquoi in the Eastern Townships for the provincial election scheduled for October. Goya succeeds Isabelle Charest, the CAQ MP who has represented the constituency since 2018. Charest announced in April that she would be stepping down from active political life at the end of her term. Manuela Goya has been Vice-President of Destination Development, Public Affairs and Industry at Tourisme Montréal since 2019. Among other roles, she has served as an adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Economic Development and to the Montreal Chamber of Commerce, as well as having been assigned to issues relating to the Greater Montreal area. She has also worked for Oxfam Québec and served on the boards of several cultural institutions, notably those of the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art. Originally from Romania, she has lived in the region she will represent for the past ten years. Her main concerns are the protection of Quebec’s identity and the French language.
