Despite the heat, no new wildland fires in the northeast Monday

Ontario Forest Fires says no new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northeast region July 13.

But the agency said there were two wildland fires confirmed Sunday night after its update was issued.

They include:

• Wawa 15, a 0.7 hectare fire which is not under control. This blaze is located on the eastern shore of Lake Superior in Lake Superior Provincial Park, 1 kilometre south of Laughing Brook Creek.
• Chapleau 10, a 2.1 hectare fire which is now under control. This blaze is located approximately 1 kilometre southeast of Sunnyside Beach Road, north of the Sault Ste Marie Airport.

There are currently 29 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. One is not under control, one is being held, two are under control and 25 are being observed.
