An investigation by members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police Offender Management and Apprehension Program has resulted in multiple charges against one individual in the Municipality of Callander. The North Bay OPP OMAP team works proactively to monitor and apprehend offenders who are wanted by police, breaching court-imposed conditions, or otherwise involved in ongoing criminal investigations. “Through investigative efforts conducted in support of several active occurrences, including ongoing public safety concerns in the Lighthouse Road area, officers identified a residence of interest in Callander,” OPP said in a news release. Search warrants executed On May 12, officers executed search warrants at properties in North Bay and Callander as part of a firearms investigation. “During the execution of a search warrant at a property on Lighthouse Road in Callander, officers seized two firearms and ammunition,” said police. As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old local man was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and failure to comply with regulations respecting the storage of firearms. The accused was released from custody at the time and provided a future court date. Accused arrested on warrant On Aug. 13, members of the North Bay OPP OMAP team, assisted by other officers, attended a residence in Callander. “Officers arrested (the accused) person on an arrest warrant for failing to appear for a court appearance,” OPP said. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
