Blind River man facing dozens of charges after drug bust

Ontario Provincial Police in Blind River seized more than $64,000 in drugs and cash Wednesday, including 400 grams of cocaine, guns and an illegal knife.

A 68-year-old man from Blind River, Ont., is facing more than two dozen charges after police seized cash, drugs and firearms from a residence on Hamilton Avenue.

The Ontario Provincial Police, with assistance from the UCCM Anishnaabe Police canine unit, executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Police seized over 400 grams of suspected cocaine and under 30 suspected Percocet pills with an approximate street value of $63,000, approximately $1,600 in Canadian currency, drug paraphernalia, a prohibited knife and nine firearms,” OPP said in a news release.

An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was also seized during the raid, according to photos provided on social media.

Extensive list of charges

As a result, the local man was charged with two counts of drug trafficking, nine counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, along with a dozen other firearm-related offences.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on April 2.
