Authorities urge caution as rain floods northern Ont. roadways

Overnight downpours caused flooding and washouts, closing roads in Ryerson, Chapman, Joly, Magnetawan, Kearney and Sundridge. Crews are clearing routes.

Ontario Provincial Police are warning the public of multiple traffic hazards and road closures on Monday due to significant flooding and washouts after heavy rainfall overnight.

Affected municipalities include Chapman Township, Joly Township, Kearney, Magnetawan, Ryerson Township, and Sundridge, as well as surrounding communities.

Police advised that local officials are actively responding to the situation.

Residents are urged to report new hazards directly to their municipality and check 511on.ca, Ontario’s Traveller Information Service, for the latest updates before travelling.

“In the event of an emergency, please call 911 immediately,” OPP said in a social media post.

As of noon, police had no confirmed reports of injuries or collisions in the region.

Authorities thanked residents for their cooperation as crews work to clear hazards.
