A Chisholm Township man is facing numerous charges following an impaired driving investigation in which the driver fled from police. “As previously released by the Ontario Provincial Police, a traffic stop conducted on Highway 539 in West Nipissing on Oct. 8, resulted in a 32-year-old Chisholm Township resident being arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with three firearm-related offences,” OPP said in a news release Oct. 21. Police said the warrant stemmed from an impaired driving investigation that began in September. Driver fled traffic stop OPP said officers received information regarding a suspected impaired driver in West Nipissing at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 24. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17. “During the investigation, the driver provided a breath sample for analysis by an approved screening device,” OPP said. “The driver then fled the scene and was observed driving in a dangerous manner while attempting to evade police.” As a result of that investigation, the driver, a 32-year-old man from Chisholm Township, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a peace officer and impaired driving. The man was arrested on Oct. 8, when officers located him during a traffic stop in West Nipissing. Search warrant executed Further investigation led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Chisholm Township on Oct. 9. Members of various OPP teams – including the canine unit – assisted with the warrant execution. “During the search, officers located four firearms and ammunition,” said OPP. Additional charges laid As a result, the man was additionally charged with four counts of each of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay at a later date.
