Thirty years after the death of 19-year-old Evaline (Evaleen) Cameron in Wabaseemoong First Nation, police continue to appeal for information with the support of a $50,000 reward. Cameron went missing Oct. 19, 1995, in the First Nation, located northwest of Kenora near the Manitoba border. Ontario Provincial Police received a missing persons report that day when she didn’t return home. “She was located deceased later that day at approximately 3 p.m. outside in the bush line off Helipad Road,” the OPP said in a news release Sept. 4. Last seen alive Oct. 17, 1995 “Evaleen was last seen alive at a residence on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 1995, at approximately 11:50 p.m.” The province is offering $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for Cameron’s death. “Evaleen is one of the missing and murdered Indigenous Peoples whose case continues to be investigated by the OPP to find answers for their families,” police said. “The cases are listed in the Missing and Unsolved Murdered Indigenous People (MUMIP) report, available here.” The OPP north west region crime unit is continuing the investigation, under the direction of the OPP criminal investigation branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. “It has been nearly 31 years since Evaleen’s tragic death,” Det. Insp. Ryan Gordon said in the release. “Even after all this time, one piece of information can make a significant difference in helping us provide long-overdue answers to her family, who have lived with this loss for decades.
