$20K in cash, suspected drugs seized in Manitoulin police raid

A 21-year-old man from North York is facing multiple drug-related charges following a coordinated police raid on Manitoulin Island last week.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced the arrest and significant seizure in a news release.

Coordinated warrant executed

The arrest stems from the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Daawema Road on Aug. 20. The operation was a joint effort involving OPP, the United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service and the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service.

“Working together (for) safer communities,” said OPP Const. Berkley Parisien in a social media post related to the warrant’s execution.

Drugs and currency seized

Police reported seizing a quantity of suspected narcotics and a significant amount of cash during the search.

According to the OPP, the items seized included “an amount of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $10,900,” as well as “an amount of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $1,700” and “an amount of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $75.”

Police also reported seizing about $7,800 in cash from the home.

As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old man from North York has been charged with two counts of drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing last week.
