For the first time in months, the warmth isn’t just making an appearance, it’s sticking around - and Montrealers are enjoying every minute of it. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), daytime highs in the Greater Montreal area in April typically sit at 15 degrees Celsius. However, the week is set to start with some above-seasonal weather. On Monday and Tuesday, that could mean temperatures of 21 and 22 degrees Celsius. Climatologist David Phillips says the dry weather is welcome news. “The number of days with precipitation - that’s certainly well above normal. I think you’ve had 16 or 17 of those, where normally you would have had ten of those in the month of April,” he said. “The sun has come out, and it’s helped to dry out the conditions. The snow cover has pretty well disappeared.” Southern Quebec normally sees about 70 millimetres of rain in April, but this month has brought an additional 20 millimetres to the region. More rain and cooler temperatures are forecast for the beginning of May, but Phillips says “the second week, the third week, certainly in May [...] we will say hey, summer is here.”
