More than 15 cm of snow could hit the Greater Montreal area on Wednesday and Thursday.

More than 15 centimetres of snow could hit the Greater Montreal area on Wednesday and Thursday, according to a special weather statement by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

“Travel conditions may become challenging due to reduced visibility and accumulating snow on roads,” the agency warns.

It specifies that the rush hours on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning could be most affected.

“In addition, winds could pick up Thursday afternoon, causing blowing snow and reducing visibility in places,” ECCC adds.

Snowfall amounts may be adjusted pending any uncertainty on the system’s development.

In addition to Montreal, the Eastern Townships, Quebec City and the Beauce are expected to see snowfall starting on Wednesday.

The storm’s path is then predicted to travel from Montreal to the Gaspé Peninsula and New Brunswick by Thursday.

According to meteorologists, the Saguenay and Haute-Côte-Nord regions may be largely spared.
