The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) is promising to balance the province’s budget within four years if it is elected to form government in October. Leader Éric Duhaime says that he’d balance the budget by controlling spending growth, reviewing government programs, and modernizing the government. Duhaime unveiled an economic platform that is centred around four initiatives that he says would modernize Quebec. In addition to balancing the budget, he says he wants to build a more competitive economy by reducing the tax and regulatory burden on businesses. The party also intends to spearhead what it calls a historic reduction in the tax burden on individuals to better reward work. Duhaime says his party would also focus on repairing Quebec before building new, by giving greater priority to maintaining roads, schools, and existing infrastructure.
