Montreal building targeted by attempted arson for second time

A commercial building in Montreal’s Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough was targeted by an alleged attempted arson for the second time in two days.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 2 a.m. Wednesday, about an alarm going off at the building on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard near Rodolphe-Forget Boulevard.

“When police arrived on the scene, there was a small fire starting in the entrance of the business,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “The police put out the fire with a fire extinguisher.”

She notes that the suspects allegedly smashed the glass on the front door before setting the fire.

“They [fled] before the arrival of police,” she said. “No incendiary material was found. Damage to the building was limited to the broken glass door.”

The file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
