Truck drivers gathered on several highways in Quebec on Monday morning to demand stricter enforcement of transportation regulations. Truckers from the “Assez, c’est assez” (“Enough is Enough”) movement had planned to meet at dawn in Montreal, Quebec City, Trois-Rivières and Gatineau. The Gatineau demonstration was cancelled. Their goal was to highlight “illegal truckers,” or untrained drivers behind the wheel of heavy vehicles. They had made it clear that their goal was to slow down traffic, but not bring it to a complete standstill. In particular, they had said that they would only drive in the right lane and respect the minimum speed limits.
